DILI, 09 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The employment contracts of 2,256 health professionals came to an end on 31 december. These professionals had been hired under a one-year contract between 2020 and 2021 to address the shortage of human resources during the COVID-19 crisis.
“During the previous government’s mandate, more than 2,000 health professionals were recruited by the Ministry of Health to reinforce medical services due to the pandemic. However, instead of renewing these contracts, the current government has decided to hire new health workers,” said the Director General of Corporate Services at the Ministry of Health, Marcelo Amaral, in Caicoli, Dili.
The President of the Recruitment Commission of the Ministry of Health, Júlio dos Santos, recalled that in december 2023, the ministry opened 229 vacancies for health professionals, registering more than 6,000 applications and selecting only 1,102 for the interview.
“The interview phase will have finalized on 14 january. The recruitment team is trying to finalize the interview process as quickly as possible so that the recruits can start work next month,” said Dos Santos.
When asked about the low number of vacancies, he said that, according to plans, the ministry plans to open other vacancies in the near future.
“These new health professionals will be deployed to work in the community health posts and referral hospitals in Maliana, Maubisse, and Baucau.
