DILI, 16 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The Ministry of Public Works (MoPW) has allocated more than US$51 million for the rehabilitation of roads and bridges in the country.
“We have prepared US$51,515,032 to repair roads and bridges this year,” said Minister of Public Works, Samuel Marcal, in Dili.
Marcal said that in addition to the rehabilitation program, the approved seven-bridge construction project will also be implemented this year.
“Of the US$224,279,372 state budget allocated to the MoPW, we put more than US$51 million for road and bridge construction and rehabilitation projects,” he explained.
Marcal added that the design of the roads and bridges is underway and will be submitted to the National Public Procurement Commission in the near future to open procurement tender: “The procurement process itself takes time.”
“We are going to build these bridges in several municipalities, including Manatuto, Manufahi, Baucau, etc.”, he said.
