DILI, 22 january 2024 (TATOLI) – The General Secretary of the Timor-Leste Football Federation (FFTL), Gregorio Correia, revealed that the next FFTL National Congress depends on the decision of the International Association Football Federation (FIFA).
“We’re going to hold the next FFTL Congress this year, but the decision has to be made by FIFA. The budget for holding the congress will come from FIFA,” Gregório Correia told Tatoli.
On january 10, 2024, the FFTL held its ordinary congress at the Hotel Timor in Dili to elect a new FFTL leader, but the congress had to be postponed due to a disagreement between congress members.
Two candidates were presented at the congress to compete for the new leader of the FFTL, including Francisco Kalbuadi Lay and Nilton Gusmão. However, Nilton Gusmão decided to resign following the disagreement.
The FFTL is due to hold its congress this year to elect a new leader, following the resignation of former president Francisco Jerónimo in 2023.
In february 2022, Francisco Jerónimo was officially re-elected as President of Timor-Leste’s Football Federation (FFTL).
