Horta and Superior Council of Defense and Security discuss strategies for combating organized crimes

DILI, 08 february 2024 (TATOLI) – The Superior Council for Defense and Security (SCDS) on thursday, met with the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta, to discuss strategies to prevent and combat organized crime, money laundering, human and drug trafficking in the country.

The SCDS aims to advise the PR on matters of defense and security policy, the analysis of legislation, and the implementation of laws relating to the organization, functioning, and discipline of the armed forces and police, the process of concluding international agreements in the area of defense and security, the decision on declaring war or peace, and so on.

Xanana Gusmão, who was present at the meeting, revealed that the President of the Republic had asked the relevant entities to pay attention to organized crime, adding that the Head of State appreciated the work of the young people and those responsible for the martial arts groups for their contribution to promoting peace and stability in the country.

The meeting also addressed issues relating to Pope Francis’ visit to the country, scheduled for august.

In general, security situation in the country remains peaceful and stable, as there are no religious or ethnic conflicts, etc.
