DILI, 09 february 2024 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Defense, Donaciano Gomes ‘Pedro Klamar Fuik’, said that members of the National Defense Force of Timor-Leste (F-FDTL) have been actively involved in the United Nations Peacekeeping Operation since 2011.
Several F-FDTL members have joined the UN Peacekeeping Operations in Lebanon and South Sudan in 2011.
“More than 20 F-FDTL members have participated in the operations,” Pedro Klamar Fuik told Tatoli at his office in Fatuhada, Dili.
Pedro Klamar Fuik said that taking part in UN peacekeeping operations is important for members to learn new experiences and skills and contribute to maintaining peace in the world.
Members of F-FDTL have attended training offered by 42 countries, which gives them enough experience to participate in such operations.
Klamar Fuik said that joining the UN Peacekeeping Force is very important for strengthening defense cooperation with other countries, including Australia, Indonesia, and the ASEAN member states.
He added that F-FDTL will also strengthen defense cooperation with the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP), and other countries to promote peace.
