DILI, 09 february 2024 (TATOLI) – The high number of Timorese living in the United Kingdom led the Catholic Church of Timor-Leste, through the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dili, Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, to appoint Priest Evaristo Fernandes da Costa Soares as the representative of the Timorese Roman Catholic Church in the UK.
Father Soares thanked the leaders of the Catholic Church in Timor-Leste for the trust they put in him: “I thank the Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Dili, Cardinal Silva, for the trust.”
“I will serve accordingly to provide pastoral care to our Timorese communities living and working in the UK with my heart and dedication,” said Soares.
He said that, while on a mission as a priest abroad, he would prepare and welcome the new catechumens and teach them to trust in Jesus Christ.
Father Soares said that the Catholic Church had asked him to carry out his duties on behalf of the Church, in order to strengthen the faith of Timorese Catholics living in the UK.
Father Soares left for the United Kingdom on saturday (12/02) and will begin his mission on february 24.
