DILI, 21 february 2024 (TATOLI) – President and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos Horta, hosts the Annual Diplomatic Reception at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace. The event brings together members of the diplomatic corps, government officials, and other distinguished guests.
In his opening remarks, President Horta welcome the diplomats and thanked them for their continued friendship and support for Timor-Leste. He emphasized the importance of international partnerships in developing the young nation.
“We are honored by the partnership we have built and are grateful for the assistance we have received over the years,” said President Horta. “Events like tonight’s reception provide an opportunity to reconnect, strengthen vital bonds of friendship and cooperation as our young nation continues to grow.”
The Annual Reception held annually at the Presidential Palace provides an opportunity for the diplomatic community to engage directly with the Timorese leaders in a social setting.
The reception also celebrates cultural exchange by showcasing of Glimpses of Timorese culture through an ethnographic and artistic exhibition highlighting the nation’s ancient traditions, costumes, habits, and practices. The exhibition aims to sharpen the interest among visitors, encouraging further exploration of the cultural richness of Timor-Leste.
The evening concludes with a toast to friendship and cooperation between Timor-Leste and partners countries. President Ramos-Horta conveyed optimism for an even stronger bonds between Timor-Leste and the International Community in the years ahead.
