DILI, 01 april 2024 (TATOLI) – Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão encouraged Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to the Republic of Cuba, Nivio Magalhães, to foster and endure relations with the government and the people of Cuba.
“Today I met with the Prime Minister to thank him for the trust the government placed in me. Prime Minister Gusmão advised me to strengthen our relations with Cuba in areas such as health, education, etc.,” said Magalhães at the Government Palace, in Dili.
Nivio Magalhães was officially sworn in as Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Cuba on 13 march 2024 by the President of the Republic, José Ramos Horta.
Ambassador Magalhães, after the swearing-in ceremony, expressed his commitment to strengthen cooperation with Cuba in the health sector, as well as exploring new opportunities for cooperation in education, agriculture, youth, sport, and so on.
Nivio Magalhães replaced the former ambassador ambassador, Eusébio Corsino whose mandate ended last month.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Minister for ASEAN Affairs, Milena Rangel, said that Ambassador Magalhães will carry out a three-year diplomatic mission in Cuba.
“Normally an ambassador is assigned for three years, and it is possible to expand the contract if it is necessary,” she said.
