DILI, 11 april 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta congratulated thousands of the Muslim community in Timor-Leste amid the celebration of wednesday’s Eid Al-Fitr holiday.
“Dear Muslim Brothers and Sisters in Timor-Leste, on behalf of the people of Timor-Leste, I extend my warmest wishes to you all on this joyous occasion of Idul Fitri, marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” said Presidnet Horta in a statement.
Idul Fitri is a celebration of that spiritual Journey, It is a time to rejoice with family and friends, to forgive past grievances, and to renew the bonds of unity, peace, and compassion that lie at the heart of Islam.
“In Timor-Leste, we take pride in our religious diversity and harmony. The Muslim community is an integral part of the tapestry of cultures that makes our nation so deeply with the ideals we cherish as nation,” said Horta.
The Head of State said: “As you mark this blessed occasion with special prayers, gatherings, and festivities, I hope it brings joy, peace and blessings to you and your loved ones. Eid Mubarak!”
According to the 2022 population census, of the 1.4 million inhabitants, 97.57 percent are Catholics, 1.96 percent Protestants, 0.24 percent Muslims, and a very small percentage of other religions.
