DILI, 11 april 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC), Agostinho Letêncio de Deus, said that a proposal on the Mandatory Retirement Law had been sent to the government.

“Last week, the Civil Service Commission sent the Ministry of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers a proposal on the Mandatory Retirement Law,” said the CSC President, in Dili.

He said that the CSC will recruit new public administration officials after the government and the national parliament have finalized the discussion of the law.

In this regard, it should be remembered that in february, the President of Commission A, which deals with Constitutional Affairs and Justice, Patrocínio Fernandes, had asked the head of the PCP and the Minister of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers to present a proposal to the National Parliament on the Mandatory Retirement Law, which would help solve the problems, for example, of teachers who are over the retirement age.

According to CFP data, Timor-Lestre currently has 36,557 civil servants, of which 27,641 are permanent and 8,916 are contracted. Meanwhile, 3,388 of these civil servants are currently working but have already passed retirement age.
