DILI, 22 april 2024 (TATOLI) – The Technical Secretariat of Electoral Administration (STAE) today began the distribution of materials for the Community Leadership Election, including ballot papers as well as other materials.
The Elections for Village Assemblies and Sucos Councils will take place on april 27 in ten villages in the municipalities of Aileu, Dili, Manatuto and Viqueque.
The Director General of the STAE, Elviro Moniz, said that the team of election observers will be made up of members of NGOs, the Caucus Foundation, the Justice, Peace and Integrity of Creation (JPIC) Commission, as well as the embassies of Malaysia, the Philippines and the United States of America.
The Director General of Decentralization of Local Government at the Ministry of State Administration, António Guterres, called on local leaders and the Timorese National Police to ensure the transport and safeguarding of ballot papers and registration books to the villages where the elections will take place.
“I also called on STAE to work in partnership with the local authorities to ensure the success of the elections. We also need everyone’s support to ensure impartiality in the community elections,” he said.
