DILI, 30 april 2024 (TATOLI) – ArtEmpreender, a non-profit association that acts as the Information and Liaison Centre for Creative Arts and Entrepreneurship in Timor-Leste, organized the Dili Jazz Festival to promote peace, human rights and cultural exchange.

The festival features the best international jazz songs performed by national and international bands.

Starting at 7pm at the Fundação Oriente, jazz lovers are invited to listen for free to musical groups such as UAV24 Band, Keyword, Lolo Bremo Quartet, Beialafonik Ensemble, as well as the French band Alistair Brown Group and the American band Ho Hum.

The representative of the organizing committee, Kay Limak, said this type of event is important for young Timorese to learn about this musical genre.

In addition to the musical performances, the organizing committee, in partnership with the Uma Amerika Cultural Centre, the Timor-Lorosa’e National University and the ArtEmpreender Association, also organized a musical art exhibition, an activity on the preservation of marine biodiversity to promote the scholarship program offered by the US government.

In November 2011, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) officially designated April 30 as International Jazz Day in order to highlight jazz and its diplomatic role of uniting people in all corners of the globe.

International Jazz Day is chaired and led by the UNESCO Director General and legendary jazz pianist and composer Herbie Hancock, who serves as a UNESCO Ambassador for Intercultural Dialogue and Chairman of the Institute.
