DILI, 28 may 2024 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta travels to Singapore to deliver a keynote address at the 21st Annual International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) Shangri-La Dialogue, a premier defense summit for the Asia-Pacific region.
The Shangri-La Dialogue has become a crucial pillar of regional defense diplomacy. Since 2002, the IISS Shangri-La Dialogue has grown into the preeminent security forum in Asia, and a critical platform for discussing and solving pressing regional challenges. This year’s Dialogue takes place against a backdrop of ever-greater focus on Asia-Pacific security.
President Horta will deliver a keynote address at this summit along with Ferdinand R. Marcos, President of the Philippines.
Horta will deliver a major statement on “Enhancing Crisis Management Amid Rising Competition” on june 1st.
The Head of State will present his perspectives on the rising tension between great powers and how countries can help ease tensions through crisis management mechanisms.
The Shangri-La Dialogue, convened by the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS), has grown into the preeminent forum for the discussion of security issues in the Asia-Pacific region. This year’s dialogue takes place against the backdrop of intensifying strategic competition and focus on the Indo-Pacific.
More than 40 countries are expected to participate in this year’s summit including defense ministers, national security advisors, military chiefs, and senior officials.
While in Singapore, President Horta will also meet with Southeast Asian Young Leaders, attend the ministerial reception and opening dinner, and join other heads of delegation at a dinner hosted by the President of Singapore.
President Ramos-Horta and delegations will depart for Dili following the President’s address on 1une 1st.
