DILI, 03 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The Vatican Delegation team met on monday with representatives of the Catholic Church and the government to observe the progress of all the preparations for Pope Francis’ visit to Timor-Leste between 9 and 11 september.
Although preparations are underway for an open-air mass in Tasi Tolu, His Holiness’ stay in the country requires a more complex set of preparations, including human resources, security, transport mobility, infrastructure, health and logistical support systems, etc.
According to Cardinal Virgílio do Carmo da Silva, with regard to the Pope’s age, the representatives of the Vatican delegation recommended that the Timorese Organizing Committee create the possible conditions for the Holy Father’s visit.
The Minister of State Administration, Tomás Cabral, said that the Organizing Committee is cooperating with the Ministry of Health so that it can provide a medical team to accompany the Pope during his stay in the country.
On may 5, the Vatican delegation and the Organizing Committee are scheduled to meet with Prime Minister, Xanana Gusmão, to inform him of the progress of the preparations for the papal visit.
