Sichuan Provincial Health Commission Delegation conducts health exchange and cooperation in Timor-Leste

DILI, 05 june 2024 (TATOLI) – A delegation headed by Zhang Feng, Deputy Director of the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission arrived at Dili, the capital of Timor-Leste, to commence a one-day exchange activity. The visit aims to further promote cooperation and exchanges between Timor-Leste and Sichuan Province in the field of healthcare, deepen the traditional friendship between the peoples of China and Timor-Leste, and support the implementation of the “Health Silk Road.” The theme of this visit is “Timor-Leste-Sichuan Healthcare Cooperation and Exchange,” focusing on in-depth dialogue and collaboration with the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste and the Hospital Nacional Guido Valadares.

During the visit, Deputy Director Zhang Feng met with Senior officials from the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste. Both sides held extensive discussions on the sharing of medical resources, personnel training, and technical exchanges. T

“Through such exchanges and cooperation, the depth and breadth of medical cooperation between the two regions can be further enhanced,” said Zhang Feng in a statement.  

Following the meeting, the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission, with the support of the 10th Chinese Medical Team in Timor-Leste, organized a public welfare activity called the “Smile for Children with Cleft Lips.”This initiative aims to provide free corrective surgery for children with cleft lips in Timor-Leste. The activity received high praise and active support from the Chinese Embassy in Timor-Leste, the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste, and the National Hospital Guido Valadares.

Through the joint efforts of Dr. Li Yan, a plastic surgery expert from the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College, and the Chinese Medical Team, several children with cleft lips have successfully undergone surgery, regaining their confident smiles.

“This visit has not only deepened cooperation in the field of healthcare but also further strengthened the friendly relations between Sichuan Province and Timor-Leste,” Zhang Feng added.

In the future, the Sichuan Provincial Health Commission will maintain close contact with the Ministry of Health of Timor-Leste, promote the implementation of more specific projects, and continuously expand the areas of cooperation. These efforts aim to make greater contributions to the health and well-being of the people in both regions.
