DILI, 08 june 2024 (TATOLI) – The government has allocated 15,000 square meters of land in Caicoli, Dili, for the construction of the new building of the Portuguese International School (EPD-Portuguese acronym).
The land concession agreement was signed by the Minister of Justice, Sérgio Hornai, and his Portuguese counterpart, Rita Júdice.
According to Sérgio Hornai, the agreement aims to strengthen the bonds of friendship and cooperation between the two countries and, above all, “to contribute to the development of teaching in Portuguese and to the qualification of the Timorese people, particularly children and young people.”
Last year, when the then Prime Minister of Portugal, António Costa, visited the EPD, its director, Manuel Alexandre, informed António Costa that the school’s classrooms were overcrowded due to a significant increase in the number of students.
The EPD was founded in 2002 and currently has around 1,300 students. It covers pre-school, primary, and secondary education.
