DILI, 03 july 2024 (TATOLI) – On tuesday, UN Women and the Secretariat of State for Arts and Cultures (SEAK-Tetun Acronym) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in the promotion and preservation of Timor-Leste’s arts and cultures.
The signing of the MoU was a significant milestone for East Timor, as both parties formalised their collaboration with a strong commitment to preserving Timor-Leste’s arts and culture.
This partnership focuses on several key areas: establishing a robust legal framework for cultural heritage; developing insightful knowledge products and policy briefs; enhancing cultural centers; supporting traditional cultural products and building capacity within communities.
“As we embark on this journey together, let’s keep in mind that our efforts today are paving the way for a future where cultural heritage and gender equality go hand in hand,” UN Women Representative in Timor-Leste, Nishtha Satyam.
She said that by empowering women and fostering their economic independence, Timor-Leste is laying the foundation for stronger, more resilient communities.
The Secretary of State for Arts and Culture, Jorge Soares Cristovão, expressed his heartfelt appreciation to UN Women in Timor-Leste for its commitment to continuing to support Timor-Leste in preserving its arts and culture.
