Timor-Leste and Mozambique discuss strengthening cooperation

DILI, 04 july 2024 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MNEK), Beendito dos Santos Freitas, with his delegation, held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, Verónica Mocamo, and Members of the Government, to discuss the strengthening of bilateral cooperation between the two countries important sectors.

The bilateral meeting was held within the framework of the official visit of the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, to Mozambique from 3 to 7 july this year, in response to the invitation of the Head of State of Mozambique, Filipe Jacinto Nyusi.

Minister Freitas said that the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Mozambique, Verónica Mocamo expressed the Government of Mozambique’s readiness to work together with the Government of Timor-Leste.

Although geographically the distance between Timor-Leste and Mozambique is far apart, however, Mozambique still demonstrates their availability to support Timor-Leste in any area.

“Ministers and government delegates participated in this meeting, talking about the sector of health, education, defense, marine resources, natural resources, technology is very important to be able to cooperate in,” said Minister Freitas.

The governor said, during the visit of the Head of State, there will also be the signing of agreements between Timor-Leste and Mozambique in important sectors such as education, minerals (hydrocarbons and mines), and diplomatic policy.

In the area of ​​education, the Governor said, it is necessary to develop more cooperation with the Government of Mozambique on CAFÉ schools including the justice sector, to contribute to the development of human capital in Timor-Leste in the future.

Minister Freitas expressed the will of the IX Constitutional Government led by Prime Minister Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão to further strengthen bilateral relations with Mozambique, especially in the Portuguese-speaking space with CPLP member countries.

In addition, the Government of Mozambique will also invite Timor-Leste to participate in the tourism exhibition to be held from 8 to 11 August this year in Mozambique.

Meanwhile, Minister Freitas, accompanied by Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Mozambique, Luís Miguel de Sousa Sequeira, Director-General for Africa Caribbean Affairs, Francisco Dionísio Fernandes Mau-kura, and others.
