DILI, 22 july 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, on behalf of the people of Timor-Leste, has extended his warmest congratulations to His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim on his coronation as the 17th King of Malaysia.
The President conveyed his congratulations in a letter dated july 20, 2024, addressed to His Majesty.
In his Letter, President Ramos-Horta highlighted the strong relationship between Timor-Leste and Malaysia, which is rooted in solidarity and the invaluable assistance Malaysia has provided during critical times.
The two nations enjoy excellent bilateral relations and cooperation, particularly in the areas of defense, health, and education.
Horta expressed gratitude for Malaysia’s significant contributions to Timor-Leste since 1999: “Since the restoration of our independence in may 2002, Malaysia has been a steadfast supporter of Timor-Leste’s aspiration to join ASEAN. I fervently hope that under Malaysia’s chairmanship in 2025, Timor-Leste’s aspiration to join ASEAN will be formalized,” stated President Ramos Horta.
In these times of regional and global uncertainties, Timor-Leste looks to Malaysia’s leadership to navigate challenges effectively. President conveyed his confidence that Malaysia will continue to prosper and enjoy peace and stability under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim.
Timor-Leste was represented at the coronation ceremony by Ambassador of Timor-Leste to Malaysia, Lisualdo Gaspar. The ceremony took place at Istana Negara, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on the morning of july 20, 2024, Kuala Lumpur time.
