DILI, 01 august 2024 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, met with the Chairman of the National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man. The meeting underscores the strong ties between the two nations.
During the meeting, President Horta expressed gratitude for Vietnam’s support since Timor-Leste’s restoration of independence.
Chairman Tran acknowledged the condolence letter received from the President regarding the passing of Nguyễn Phú Trọng, the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam.
The leaders’ discussion centered on Timor-Leste’s recent acceptance in principle into ASEAN and the critical importance of the next five years for developing infrastructure, renewable energy, and connectivity through the submarine cable project.
President Ramos-Horta praised Vietnam’s achievements and sought guidance in addressing food security and fostering development.
Horta ighlighted the successful presence of Vietnamese investment in Timor-Leste, citing Telemor company as a positive example of bilateral cooperation.
Chairman Tran emphasized the long-standing friendship and diplomatic ties between the two nations, pointing out the potential for increased collaboration. They explored key areas for bilateral cooperation, particularly in sectors such as agriculture, education, and tourism.
This meeting further reinforces the growing ties between Timor-Leste and Vietnam, representing another step in strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between the two Southeast Asian nations.
