Commercial flights to be suspended during Papal visit

DILI, 21 august 2024 (TATOLI) – The Airports and Air Navigation Administration of Timor-Leste (ANA-TL) and Civil Aviation Authority Timor-Leste (AACTL) have announced that commercial flights to and from Timor-Leste will be suspended during Pope Francis’ visit to the country, scheduled for september 9-11.

“ANA-TL and AACTL have confirmed that there will be no commercial flights during the Pope’s stay in Timor-Leste,” said the Minister of Transport and Communications, Miguel Manetelu, at the Government Palace in Dili.

The government is currently carrying out maintenance work at the Presidente Nicolau Lobato International Airport in preparation for Pope Francis’ visit.

In addition to the maintenance of the runway, according to Constantino Mendonça, an engineer from Dco, the VIP lounge is also being rehabilitated.
