DILI, 06 september 2024 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Ministry of Health (MoH), together with Japan and the World Health Organization (WHO), has prepared 13 multifunctional ambulances in preparation for the visit of Pope Francis on September 9–11, 2024.

Of the 13 ambulances, the Ministry of Health prepared eight (8) ambulances, the Government of Japan supported two (2), and WHO offered three (3), which will be handed over to the Secretariat of the High Level Visit of Pope Francis.

The Prime Minister, Kay Rala Xanana Gusmão, thanked WHO and the Japanese Government for helping the government, especially in the context of the visit of Pope Francis.

‘The condition of the ambulance is good because it has complete health facilities. I, on behalf of the government, thanked WHO and the Japanese government,’ said the head of government at the government office on friday (06/09).

Therefore, drivers are requested to take care of the ambulance and its facilities, especially during the visit of Pope Francis, to provide services to Christians and pilgrims who will attend the mass at Tasi-Tolu.

A multifunctional ambulance is a type of vehicle designed to meet various medical needs, both for patient transport and for emergency purposes, that is complete with medical facilities such as beds, oxygen cylinders, and others.

At the same place, Minister of Health Elia dos Reis Amaral said eight ambulances from the Ministry of Health have been used by the Ministry of Health, where one ambulance unit was purchased at a price of $50,000 from the annual budget of 2024.
