DILI, 25 september 2024 (TATOLI) – With the feeling of sadness, tearfulness, emptiness, and hopelessness, a patient was discovered dead in the bathroom of the Guido Valadares National Hospital (HNGV) in Dili, which has been ruled a suicide.
The 39-year-old man, from the municipality of Ermera, identified as Marçal Maia hanged himself from by a rope attached to a wall mounted hanging rack in the bathroom.
“He is from Ducurai village in Letefoho Administrative Post, Ermera municipality. Maia suffered from a lung disease and was undergoing intensive treatment at the National Hospital. Today, we found him ending his life by hanging himself in the bathroom,” Esmeralda Martins, the patient’s relative, told TATOLI, today.
Martins said that Maia spent more than an hour in the bathroom to end his life, so the HNGV cleaning staff had to force open the bathroom door and discovered that he was dead by hanging himself.
According to the observation of a Tatoli reporter, the police arrived shortly at the scene to begin their investigation.
