DILI, 04 october 2024 (TATOLI) – Today, U.S. Ambassador Donna Welton met with Minister of Defense Donaciano do Rosário Gomes to reaffirm the strong partnership between the United States and Timor-Leste.
This meeting aims to strengthen the rapport between U.S. and Timorese defense leadership and discuss ongoing U.S. military support and security initiatives.
Ambassador Welton and Minister Gomes will explore collaborative efforts at Baucau Airfield, including projects that enhance Timor-Leste’s defense capabilities and address future infrastructure needs.
Their discussion will also focus on the importance of defense training and capacity-building initiatives that empower Timor-Leste to play a critical role in Indo-Pacific security.
The United States is committed to continuing support for these initiatives and exploring new opportunities for cooperation that enhance regional stability and security.
The meeting represents a significant step toward reinforcing our mutual goals and advancing our shared vision for a secure, prosperous Timor-Leste.
