DILI, 24 october 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, joined Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa at the Opening Session of the Estoril Conferences, held at the Nova SBE Campus in Carcavelos.
The event, themed “Time to Rethink,” featured a prominent Peace President’s Talk focusing on national leadership and peacebuilding.
During the 30-minute session, President Ramos-Horta shared his insights on “How to Lead a Nation towards Lasting Peace – Transforming Conflict into Peacebuilding.” His perspective carries significant weight, drawing from his extensive experience in conflict resolution and his role in securing peace in Timor-Leste, efforts which earned him the 1996 Nobel Peace Prize.
The presence of both presidents at this prestigious forum underscored the strong diplomatic ties between Portugal and Timor-Leste, while highlighting the continuing importance of peace-building initiatives in today’s global context. The discussion aimed to provide valuable insights for current and future leaders facing similar challenges in conflict resolution and national reconciliation.
