DILI, 13 november 2024 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta inaugurated a new Basic Education Branch School (EBF) in Kamlai, Maubessi Administrative Post of Ainaro Municipality, built with the support from Australian donors through the “Spend it Well” organization with a total funding of over US$70,000.
The school, which currently serves 136 students (78 male and 58 female) across three grade levels, was established to strengthen educational development in the Maubssi Villa area.
During the inauguration, President Horta specifically acknowledged the contributions of Cristy Gusmão’s Alola Foundation and the broader Australian support for Timor-Leste’s development.
The Ministry of Education has announced that the school, which currently lacks basic furniture, will receive new chairs, tables, and educational materials within the coming week.
Additionally, 70,000 books are en route to support both public and private schools throughout the country.
Horta emphasized his commitment to education and rural development, noting that he regularly accepts invitations to visit remote areas of the country, including locations that other government officials have not yet reached, to better understand and address the needs of struggling communities.
