DILI, 26 november 2024 (TATOLI) – The Australian Embassy in Timor-Leste will host an Aboriginal art exhibition at Fundação Oriente in Dili from 26 november 2024 – 8 february 2025.
“Jarracharra – Dry Season Wind” is a powerful collection of textile art produced by Aboriginal women from the Bábbarra Women’s Centre in the Maningrida community of the Northern Territory.
The exhibit features impressive hand-printed fabric hangings and prints in which the artists pay homage to their ancestral lands and the sacred stories of the Maningrida people.
The collection has been exhibited in Portugal, France, Turkey, Greece, Morocco, Jordan, and India, and has now come to Timor-Leste on the final stop of its international tour.
The Australian Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Caitlin Wilson, says she is excited to be able to launch this beautiful collection of Australian First Nations art in Timor-Leste.
“The Jarracharra – Dry Season Winds exhibition has been touring internationally since 2019, and I’m so pleased to be able to welcome it to Timor-Leste before it returns home to Maningrida next year,” she said.
“Indigenous culture is an integral part of the Australian identity. I encourage everyone to see and experience this remarkable collection of Aboriginal artworks,” she said.
