DILI, 26 november 2024 (TATOLI) – On the occasion of the 49th Anniversary of the Timor-Leste Proclamation of Independence, President of Timor-Leste and Nobel Peace Laureate, Jose Ramos Horta, presided over a historic ceremony honoring both National Liberation Combatants and distinguished individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the liberation and development of Timor-Leste.
Upon the proposal of the Council of National Liberation Combatants, the President of the Republic announced the conferral of national orders to distinguished National Liberation Combatants across three categories: The Order of the Guerrilla awarded to 19 individuals. The Order of Funu Nain awarded to 19 individuals. The Order of Nicolau Lobato awarded to 4,395 individuals
In a solemn ceremony at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace, President Ramos-Horta awarded 107 National Liberation Combatants with the Order of Nicolau Lobato. The President has also appointed members of the Council of National Liberation Combatants to represent him at award ceremonies scheduled for November 28, 2024, across multiple municipalities including Lautem, Viqueque, Baucau, Same Manufahi, Ermera, Bobonaro Maliana, Liquica, and Manatuto.
“These awards represent our nation’s enduring gratitude to those who fought for our independence,” said President-Horta in a statement.
“This ceremony stands as a testament to our commitment to honor the martyrs of our independence struggle and to preserve the legacy of our liberation movement for future generations.”
On the same day at the Nobre Palace, President Ramos-Horta awarded the Order of Timor-Leste to 81 distinguished individuals, both national and international, who have made exceptional contributions to Timor-Leste’s development, stability, and democratic progress. President awarded Order of Timor-Leste in the category of Colar to 8 recipients, Medal for 15 recipients, Insignia for 14 recipients and Merit for 44 recipients, including Certificates of Recognition
“Today, we recognize those who have tirelessly worked to strengthen our nation and foster peace, democracy, and development in Timor-Leste,” said the President. “These awards symbolize our profound gratitude to both our citizens and international friends who have stood with us through our journey of national development, contributing their expertise and dedication both within our borders and from abroad.”
The Head of State emphasized the importance of recognizing those who contributed to Timor-Leste’s independence and ongoing development across various sectors.
