DILI, 06 december 2024 (TATOLI) – Just a year after workers began constructing the 5-storey Pediatric and CICU building of the National Hospital Guido Valadares (HNGV), the work on the project is 40% complete.
“The construction of the Pediatrics CICU of the HNGV is 40% complete,” HNGV’s Executive Director Cecília Barros told reporters, in Dili, on thursday.
On september 2023, the Ministry of Health (MoH) launched the construction of the new building of the Pediatric and CICU.
The foundation stone of the construction of the five-story building was launched by the former Prime Minister, Taur Matan Ruak in 2022.
The building has been being constructed by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation and supervised by the Indonesian company, PT Bennatin Surya Cipta.
The construction of the 5-storey building is expected to be completed by 30 january 2025, which will accommodate 327 beds with 81 midwives and 163 nurses. The construction of the building costs around US$9.3 million.
The new building will improve specialized quality care provided at the HNGV for hospitalization of emergency cases and pediatric urgency.
It will also improve the national response to sporadic and emerging outbreaks of dengue, cholera, and other outbreaks with major public health impacts, particularly among newborns, children, and adolescents.
