Government to sign Financial Cooperation Agreement with ADB worht about US$16.588 million

DILI, 11 december 2024 (TATOLI) – The Council of Minister, on wednesday appointed Finance Minister, Santina José Rodrigues F. Viegas Cardoso to sign a Financial Contribution Agreements between Timor-Leste and the Asian Development Bank on the “Rural Resilience and Livelihood Improvement Sector Project.

“The Council of Ministers decided to authorize the signing of the Financial Contribution Agreements between the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste and the Asian Development Bank relating to the “Rural Resilience and Livelihood Improvement Sector Project”, for a total amount of US$16.588 million, appointing the Minister of Finance to sign these agreements on behalf of the Government of Timor-Leste,” said in a statement.

The project aims to improve climate resilience, water and food security, and livelihood opportunities of rural communities in Manatuto municipality,” according to ADB.

The project will support enhancing resilience of rural households that rely predominantly on agriculture by improving access to water, increasing the productivity of farms and agroforestry through climate-smart approaches, enhancing market linkages, and developing diversified livelihood opportunities.

“The project follows an inclusive approach where the government will work closely with communities to plan and implement a combination of investments in rural infrastructure, agriculture and livelihood development, and capacity strengthening,” said ADB.
