More than 340 Timorese receive medical treatment abroad

DILI, 08 january 2025 (TATOLI) – In 2025, the Ministry of Health (MoH) through the National Health Service Support (DNSH) sent 347 patients abroad for medical treatment.

According to the National Director of Health Services Support, Carlos de Carvalho Guterres, these patients were sent to receive medical treatment in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.

“Of these patients, 136 were sent to Indonesia, 157 to Malaysia, and 54 to Singapore,” Guterres told reporters, at his office, in Dili, today.

Carvalho said 326 patients have completed their medical treatment and returned home, saying only 21 patients continue to receive treatment abroad.

He explained that these patients suffered from various serious illnesses and needed intensive treatment abroad: “Most of the patients were suffering from cardiovascular diseases and cancer.”

It’s recalled that in 2023, MoH sent more than 100 patients to hospitals in Indonesia, Malaysia, and Singapore.
