Japan constructs Improved Education Facility for Children in Lautem

DILI, 17 january 2025 (TATOLI) – Today, a signing ceremony for a grant contract for The Project for the Construction of Coro Asu Junior High School Building in Lore Administrative Post, Lautem Municipality was held at the Embassy of Japan in Timor-Leste.

The assistance is provided through Japan’s development assistance scheme “Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP).

The contract was signed between KIMURA Tetsuya, Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, and the representatives of local NGO, FUNDAMOR, the implementor of the project. Armando dos Santos Lopes, President of Committee G, Melio de Jesus, President of the Municipal Authority of Lautem, and the community leaders attended the ceremony.

FUNDAMOR will construct a school building of Coro Asu Junior High School in Lore Administrative Post, Lautem Municipality with a funding amount of US$95,659 from the Government of Japan.

Ambassador Kimura said “Japan recognizes that the importance of eliminating educational imbalances and delivering quality education to all, including in the rural areas. Basic education is essential for the development of the nation as children and young people of Timor-Leste are the ones responsible for economic and social development of this country in the future. we will sign a new GGP contract, namely the Project for Construction of Coro Asu Junior High School Building in Lorel Village with FUNDAMOR. I very much look forward to seeing all of you again and the people of the project site at the handover ceremony to celebrate the completion of the project.”

The Government of Japan has been actively implementing a wide range of projects in Timor-Leste, from large-scale infrastructure development and industrial support to smaller- scale projects that directly benefit local communities.
