Govt distributes voting materials for upcoming Community Leadership Elections

DILI, 21 january 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Timor-Leste, through the Technical Secretariat of Electoral Administration (STAE), in collaboration with the National Election Commission (CNE), today carried out the delivery of the sensitive electoral materials to eight municipalities for the upcoming Community Leadership Election. The voting materials include ballot papers, ballot boxes, as well as other materials.

The Elections for Village Heads, Village Assemblies, and Sucos Councils will take place on january 25 in 18 villages in the municipalities of Aileu, Baucau, Ermera, RAEOA, Viqueque, Manatuto, Lautem, and Manufahi.

STAE’s Director General, Elviro Moniz said: “In total, 31,150 ballots have been distributed to the eight municipalities, including 27,000 ballots for Village Chiefs, 2,350 for Hamlet Chiefs, and 1,800 for Suco Councils.

“We’re also going to distribute 150 ballot boxes for polling centers in the 18 villages,” Moniz said after the distribution of the voting materials in Caicoli, Dili, today.

Moniz added that the STAE team will travel to the eight municipalities to organize the elections, saying 18 village heads, nine hamlet chiefs, 18 village Council Delegates, 14 Lian-na’in, and 28 Youth Representatives would be elected.

The 18 villages include Karahili and Hurai-Raco in Aileu, Ueru Mata, Builai, and Caibada Macasa’e in Baucau, Assui-Lau, Koliate Leten, Poetete Vila, Poetete, Lodudu in Ermera, Tahu-Bein in Manufahi, Mone-Meco, and Cutete in RAEOA, Macadique de Cima, and Macadique de Baixo in Viqueque, Lacú-Mesak, and Iliheu in Manatuto and Baduro in Lautem municipality.
