DILI, 10 February 2025 TATOLI) – The Malaysian community in Timor-Leste, on Sunday (09/02) gathered at Malaysia House (Official Residence of the Ambassador) to celebrate the Lunar New Year of the Wooden Snake. Hosted by Ambassador Dato’ Amarjit Sarjit Singh and Datin Param Git Kaur, the event kicked off with the customary Yee Sang tossing – skillfully put together by the Malaysian Embassy’s ladies association (PERWAKILAN), while the significance of each ingredient was articulately narrated by the embassy’s Second Secretary Jemimah Ujang.
In his Remarks, Ambassador Dato’ Amarjit commended the Malaysian community for coming together not only during festivities, and urged them to continue flying the Jalur Gemilang high as they continue contributing to the socio-economic development of Timor-Leste.
The energetic event which reflects the strong bonds of the Malaysian community in Timor-Leste, not only embraces the Malaysia Madani (Civil Malaysia) principles but also aligns with the theme of Malaysia’s chairmanship of ASEAN this year- inclusivity and sustainability.
Guests then helped themselves to delectable dishes prepared by Jade Garden Restaurant owner and Chef – Tsen Leong Fui (affectionately known as Ah Fai), who hails from the region of Sabah in Malaysia. The gastronomic journey was further enhanced by pineapple tarts delightfully baked by Third Secretary Nur Fatin Aqilah Zainuddin.
Malaysia House was transformed into a typical Malaysian home celebrating the occasion-with lanterns, couplets/well patches of Spring greetings, angpow (traditional money gift) packets, and mandarin oranges. Guests thronged the immaculately designed photo booth to capture the moment in their best costumes while flanking a replica of a lion’s head (customarily featured in the traditional lion dance).
