DILI, 11 February 2025 (TATOLI) – President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta expressed his profound condolences to His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf and the people of Sweden following the tragic shooting at the Risbergska educational center in Örebro.

In his letter to the Swedish monarch, on February 05, 2025, President Ramos-Horta conveyed deep sorrow over the incident and extended Timor-Leste’s solidarity with the Swedish people during this difficult time.

“In this time of mourning, I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims and to the Swedish people, who are facing one of the most painful moments in their recent history. Violence in any form is unacceptable, and an attack in a place of learning, where young people and adults seek knowledge and a better future, makes this tragedy even more distressing,” said President Horta.

The Head of State emphasized Timor-Leste’s unwavering support for Sweden and expressed confidence in the Swedish people’s resilience: “In this difficult moment, we trust in the resilience of the Swedish people and their authorities to overcome this ordeal with strength and unity.”

Horta concluded by offering comfort to the bereaved families and expressing hope and determination for Sweden’s path forward.

Swedish Police reported that at least 11 people have been killed in the shooting, including the suspected gunman.

BBC reported that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson described the attack as the “worst mass shooting in Swedish history”.
