DILI, 19 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The Ambassador of the Republic of Argentina to Timor-Leste, Gustavo Ricardo Coppa, pledged on Tuesday to promote Timor-Leste’s coffee in Argentina, a country in the southern half of South America where people adore coffee.

Coppa made the comments following his meeting with the President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, in Dili, where the two discussed the importance of coffee to Timor-Leste’s economy, as it is the country’s second-largest export commodity after oil and gas.

Coppa described the moment he set foot in the country, saying that “having a cup of Timorese coffee was the first thing that came to my mind.”

“You know, yesterday when I arrived in Dili at the airport, the protocol team offered me a cup of coffee, and I couldn’t stop at just one cup but I had two because it was so good!” said Coppa.

“I love coffee and Timor-Leste’s coffee is the best. I adore the Timorese coffee and it is one of the best I’ve ever tasted. I’m going to take some bags of Timor-Leste’s coffee home and share it with my friends to help promote it.”

Coppa therefore said during the meeting they also discussed the possibility of exporting Timor-Leste’s coffee to Argentina.

“We discussed coffee with the President because, as you know, Argentinians love coffee, but we don’t produce it. So, we talked about the possibility of bringing Timor-Leste’s coffee to Argentina in the coming years,” Coppa explained.

Many consider the rich aroma and smooth flavor what makes Timor-Leste’s coffee truly exceptional.

In addition, Ambassador Coppa expressed Argentina’s commitment to support Timor-Leste in the education sector, focusing on tertiary and basic education, as well as cooperation in tourism and agricultural education.
