DILI, 20 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The Chinese government is offering scholarships to 15 Timorese students to study at Chinese training centers in the fields of agriculture, livestock, and fisheries.
The statement was made by Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to China, Loro Horta, following his meeting with the Secretary of State for Secondary Education and Technical Schools, Domingos Lopes Lemos, in Vila Verde, Dili.
He said that the Chinese Embassy, in collaboration with the Scholarship Selection Committee of the Ministry of Education, will organize the selection process.
“I spoke to the Chinese government about increasing the number of scholarships for Timorese students in technical-vocational education,” said the diplomat in Dili.
Meanwhile, the Secretary of State for Secondary Education and Technical Schools, Domingos Lopes Lemos, also emphasized the importance of investing in technical and vocational education for the country’s development.
Last year, the Chinese Ambassador to Timor-Leste, Wang Wenli, stated that China is committed to providing scholarships for 100 Timorese students to study at Chinese universities.
Currently, more than 200 Timorese students are studying at Chinese higher education institutions.
