DILI, 20 February 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, awarded Collar of the Order of Timor-Leste to the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, Donna Ann Welton, at the 2025 Annual Diplomatic Reception held at the Nicolau Lobato Presidential Palace.
The award recognizes her exceptional service in strengthening bilateral relations between Timor-Leste and the United States of America.
During her tenure, Ambassador Welton demonstrated unprecedented commitment to understanding and serving Timor-Leste, becoming the first U.S. Ambassador to visit all 13 municipalities of the nation.
Her comprehensive approach to diplomacy included engaging with citizens at all levels of society, from high-ranking officials to rural schoolchildren, while actively participating in cultural, security, and economic development initiatives.
Key achievements during Ambassador Welton’s tenure include facilitating crucial defense cooperation between Timor-Leste and the Rhode Island National Guard, establishing a Business Incubator program to foster economic growth, and supporting cultural preservation projects through U.S. grant programs.
