TL and Indonesia explore opportunities for future cooperation in Higher Education

DILI, 21 February 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Indonesia, Roberto Soares met with the Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia, Brian Yuliarto. Ambassador Soares was accompanied by First Secretary Claudia Soares and Second Secretary Joanico Gomes and Education Attaché Jaime Andre Simões.

During the meeting, they discussed and shared information on the development and progress of bilateral relations in the field of education, particularly exploring potential new areas or initiatives for cooperation in the fields of higher education, science and technology between Timor-Leste and Indonesia.

The meeting also exchanged views on regional and international education and research, as both are essential to building resilient societies and citizens, appreciating values and guiding humanity towards a more progressive and sustainable future.

Minister Yuliarto expressed his strong commitment to facilitate easy access to student visas and KITAS for all Timor-Leste students pursuing higher education at universities in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Soares expressed his gratitude for the Minister’s commitment, and reaffirmed Timor-Leste’s readiness to continue partnering with Indonesia to advance education, science, research and technology.

Ambassador Soares was the first Ambassador from Timor-Leste to meet with the Minister Yuliarto after his inauguration 19 February 2025.

The meeting took place in the meeting room of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science and Technology in a very friendly and warm atmosphere.
