DILI, 11 March 2025 (TATOLI) – President Jose Ramos Horta expressed pride in Timor-Leste’s security forces during the seminar with the theme “Hamutuk Ita Hametin Konfiansa” to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Timor-Leste National Police (PNTL).
Speaking at the PNTL Training Center in Comoro, Dili, today, Horta congratulated the police force on their milestone anniversary and commended their coordination with other security entities including Timor-Leste’s National Defense Force (F-FDTL).
In an interview following the event, President Ramos-Horta thanked PNTL for their dedicated service to the Timorese people, highlighting their crucial work up to the neighborhood level.
“While encouraging the government and relevant ministries to address any institutional needs through additional training and capacity building initiatives, President Horta emphasized his overall satisfaction with the force’s performance,” said in a statement released today.
When asked about PNTL recruitment and retirement policies, the President acknowledged the importance of managing personnel transitions for optimal productivity, but the President of the Republic deferred to the government and relevant ministries on these administrative matters.
Horta reaffirmed his confidence in the leadership overseeing Timor-Leste’s national police force, stating he trusts the ministry and government to manage the institution well.
