DILI, 26 March 2025 (TATOLI) – Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, Fisheries, and Forestry (MALFF) Marcos da Cruz said MALFF will purchase a medium-sized fishing boat worth $80,000.
He said that the tender for the fishing boat has been opened to the public. MALFF will decide on the winning company and will then purchase the fishing boat within a short period of time, said Marcos da Cruz in his office, Comoro, Dili.
Minister of Agriculture Marcos da Cruz said in addition to the purchase of fishing boats, MALFF has also received bids from several foreign shipping companies from China who want to catch the fish in the sea of Timor-Leste. Of course, it is allowed, but ‘We must prohibit them from catching protected fish species in accordance with existing contractual agreements”, he stated.
In addition, in purchasing fishing boats, the government, through MALFF, has also allocated more than $960,000 to purchase 140 skiffs to be distributed to the fishermen in 11 municipalities in the territory of Timor-Leste.
