DILI, 03 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, Jose Ramos Horta, and Japanese Ambassador Tetsuya Kimura, on Wednesday inaugurated the new School Building of Nossa Senhora Aitara Basic School in Soibada, Manatuto.
The inauguration event, organized by local NGO Leobalu Foundation, gathered local officials, including Luis Inacio Hendriques Fernandes, President of the Municipal Authority of Manatuto, together with teachers, students, and parents from the aforementioned school.
This project was funded through Japan’s Grassroots and Human Security Project (GGP) scheme with a contribution of US$$92,590.
The newly built facility includes three classrooms and one teachers’ room, providing improved educational facilities for 102 students and 13 teachers at Nossa Senhora Aitara Basic School.
At the ceremony, Ambassador Kimura expressed his happiness to celebrate this inauguration together with President Horta and the community.
Kimura hoped that “this school will become a place for dreams and aspirations for students, giving them the opportunity to take their first steps toward their bright future,” and emphasized Japan’s commitment to continued partnership with the community.
This project marks the 141st implementation under Japan’s GGP scheme in Timor-Leste since its inception in 2000. The program has supported community infrastructure development across all 13 municipalities in Timor-Leste, including the construction and rehabilitation of school facilities, health posts, and clean water supply systems to address various basic human needs at the grassroots level.
