Timor-Leste and Cambodia strengthen bilateral cooperation

DILI, 04 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (MFAC), Bendito dos Santos Freitas, and his delegation visited Cambodia on Thursday to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries.

Upon arrival at Phnom Penh International Airport, the delegation was received by the Ambassador of Timor-Leste to the Kingdom of Cambodia, Hermenegildo Lopes accompanied by the Deputy Secretary of State of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation (MFAIC) of the Kingdom of Cambodia THAI Chun, by the Director of the Protocol Department of the MFAIC, OUK Pheang and handing over a bouquet of flowers and a traditional costume necklace as a sign of welcome.

This was Minister Freitas’s first official visit to Cambodia, aimed at further strengthening the diplomatic relationship and bilateral cooperation between Timor-Leste and Cambodia.

According to the agenda, today, Minister Freitas will hold a bilateral meeting with his counterpart, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Cambodia, PRAK Sokhonn at the MFAIC office and will participate in the Get-Together Dinner hosted by his counterpart.

On Friday, Minister Bendito Freitas will hold a courtesy meeting with the Prime Minister of Cambodia, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN Manet, at his Office, the Peace Palace. In addition, the Minister will also meet with Timorese scholarship students studying at the University of Cambodia, including meeting with volunteer teachers at the AHHA Education Center in Cambodia.

The delegation that accompanied Minister Bendito Freitas was made up of the General Director for Asian and Oceania Affairs, Marcos da Costa, and others.
