DILI, 04 April 2025 (TATOLI) – WHO Timor-Leste, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health (MoH), on Friday delivered an Integrated Health Program through mass consultation activities in Hera village, in Dili.
This medical consultation is part of the celebration of World Health Day, which is commemorated annually on April 7.
The Director-General of Primary Health Care at the Ministry of Health, Elizabeth Leto Mau, said that the initiative was carried out by a team of medical professionals, including doctors, nurses, and some specialists: “We have ophthalmologists, pediatricians, dermatologists, and gastroenterologists.”
She said that the initiative aimed to bring healthcare closer to people living in hard-to-reach areas in Dili, adding that similar consultations are also being held in other parts of the country.
Natália Barreto, a patient who has benefited from the initiative, said that she has been suffering from gastritis for a long time, adding that it was a good opportunity for her to see specialists.
WHO described that the camp in Hear was filled with mothers and babies, young women and men, elderly people, and people with disabilities—all eager to access the healthcare they deserve. From general check-ups to specialized consultations, this initiative is a powerful reminder that health is a right, not a privilege.
“As we celebrate World Health Day, we reaffirm our commitment to accessible, inclusive, and quality healthcare for all. Together, we are building a healthier Timor-Leste!” said WHO Representative in Timor-Leste, Arvind Mathur.
