DILI, 14 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The 6th Ministerial Meeting of the g7+ ended this Saturday, on Saturday (12/04), with the adoption of the Dili Resolution, a document that reaffirms the commitment of member countries to nationally led solutions for the promotion of peace, sustainable development and resilience in fragile contexts. The meeting, which took place at the Dili Convention Center, marked the 15th anniversary of the group’s creation and brought together foreign ministers and high-level representatives from the 20 member countries.
The Dili Resolution highlights the urgency of strengthening solidarity with countries in situations of crisis, reinforcing conflict prevention mechanisms and ensuring greater inclusion of women and marginalized groups in peace processes. The document also advocates strengthening regional cooperation, peer-to-peer learning and the need for international support that is predictable, flexible and adapted to the realities of conflict-affected countries.
Among the most important decisions, the member countries committed themselves to fully ratifying the g7+ Charter, signing a diplomatic note of bilateral commitment and strengthening coordination between the permanent representatives to the United Nations. It was also agreed to appoint the President of the Democratic Republic of Timor-Leste, José Ramos-Horta, as Special Envoy for Mediation, with the support requested from the UN Secretary General.
The resolution also calls for urgent reform of the international financial institutions and the UN Security Council, stressing the need for greater representation of historically under-represented regions, particularly Africa, and welcomes the adoption of the Compact for the Future by the UN in September 2024.
The group also decided that the Solomon Islands will take over the presidency of the g7+ from January 1st, 2026, succeeding Sierra Leone. The Democratic Republic of Congo and Liberia will hold the vice presidencies for the same period.
The meeting ended with a formal thank you to the Government of Timor-Leste for hosting and continuously supporting the g7+, as well as to the international partners, including the g7+ Foundation, the Governments of Finland and China, for their technical and financial contribution.
With this meeting and the adoption of the Dili Resolution, the g7+ is renewing its role as the authentic voice of countries in situations of fragility, promoting effective, inclusive solutions centered on the realities of their peoples in the current global geopolitical context.
