JICA holds JOCV Final Presentation in Timor-Leste

DILI, 16 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), on Wednesday, held the Final Presentation of the four members of Japan Overseas Cooperation Volunteers (JOCV) in Timor-Leste. The four JOCV members delivered their final presentation at Timor Plaza in Dili.

These Japanese volunteers gave final presentations about the activities they carried out at their host organizations. Two of them worked in Physical Education, including one in Soccer Training and one with the SHORINJI KEMPO Federation of Timor-Leste.

The presenters were Seito Kai, engaged in Soccer at Youth Training Center Timor–Leste, Asuka Yamamoto, engaged in Physical Education at High School of Sacred Heart of Jesus Becora, Yumi Akaike, engaged in Physical Education at UNTL / Faculty of Education, Arts Humanities, and Kodai Furuno, engaged in SHORINJI KEMPO Federation of Timor-Leste.

During the presentation, these volunteers present their activities for the final of their assignment, including a discussion of the challenges they faced during two years in the country.

The presentations were given in Tetum, demonstrating the courage and willingness of the Japanese volunteers to learn new languages and embrace new cultures.

The information from the presentation will be used by JICA to assess whether the activities of the JOCV are contributing to the project’s objectives.

ICA’s Chief Representative in Timor-Leste, Daisuke FUKUMORI, said that the four JOCV members have completed their two-year volunteer activities in Timor-Leste, and therefore, the JOCV members are presenting their final presentations as part of the evaluation process to improve future JOCV programs.

Daisuke FUKUMORI encouraged the volunteers to continue contributing to Timor-Leste’s development in the future.

JOCV is one of the oldest volunteer programs in the world. This program is for those with a strong commitment to utilizing their own skills and knowledge for people in developing countries, by selecting the job type. JOVC is a government system for sending young Japanese volunteers overseas operated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

More than 30 Japanese volunteers had been sent to Timor-Leste to work in various organizations and had contributed significantly to the country’s development, mainly in youth development and in the education and health sectors.
