Timor-Leste participates in the 33rd Meeting of ASEAN Socio-Cultural Council Meeting

DILI, 25 April 2025 (TATOLI) – The Minister of Social Solidarity and Inclusion, Verónica das Dores, accompanied by Timor-Leste’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Lisualdo Gaspar, participated in the 33rd ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Council Meeting, held from 24 to 25 April 2025 in Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysia.

The Meeting expressed full support for the five ASCC priorities under Malaysia’s ASCC Chairmanship under the theme of inclusivity and sustainability.

“The Meeting also adopted the ASCC Strategic Plan, which will be included in the ASEAN Community’s Post-2025 Vision, and discussed strategic directions for the ASCC in light of the evolving regional and global landscape,” read a statement.

The meetings culminated in the soft launch of the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community Strategic Plan 2045, which will be adopted by ASEAN Leaders during the 46th ASEAN Summit to be held on May 2025 in Kuala Lumpur.

Prior to the 33rd ASCC Council Meeting, the Timor-Leste delegation participated in the 11th Ad Hoc Working Group Meeting to Develop the ASCC Strategic Plan and the 38th Senior Officials’ Committee for the ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community. The delegation included Pedro Laranjeira, National Director for ASEAN Socio-Cultural at MNEC, officials from MSSI as well as representatives from the Public Service Commission and Secretary of State for Equality.
