DILI, 01 May 2025 (TATOLI) – The President of the Republic, José Ramos-Horta, congratulated workers on the occasion of the celebration of the International May Day on May 1.

In his congratulatory message, Horta highlighted the importance of promoting social justice and decent work for all workers in Timor-Leste: “Our mission is to create harmonization of safe, healthy, and protected working conditions that contribute to the economic growth of our nation.”

President Horta also emphasized the importance of promoting dignity and respect in the workplace.

“Every citizen deserves dignity in their labor and fair recognition of their contributions,” the Head of State said in a statement. “The hands that work, the minds that dream, and the hearts that persist – these are the true foundations of our nation. Our workers are not just laborers, but the living embodiment of Timor-Leste’s courage and potential.”

Horta said that the strength of Timor-Leste lies in the strength of its workforce: “Together, we will create a future where all workers are respected, protected, and valued for their essential contributions to our society.”

“On this significant day of International Labour Day, we honor and celebrate the spirit, resilience, determination, and contributions of workers across our beloved nation and around the world. As we mark this important day in 2025, we reflect on our journey of nation-building, economic development, and the critical role of our workforce in shaping Timor-Leste’s future,” said Horta.

Horta added that the significant contributions of Timorese workers since independence have not only rebuilt the economy but have also made them the architects of the country’s resilience: “From agricultural workers in our rural communities to professionals in our growing urban centers, each worker contributes to the tapestry of our national progress.” “Today, we celebrate every worker who rises each morning to build, create, and move our nation forward. Your labor is the pulse of our national spirit.”

“I wish all workers a happy Labour Day celebration, filled with peace and joy, and may the year ahead bring us more prosperity and progress,” Horta concluded. “Long Live Timor-Leste! Long Live the Workers of Our Nation!”
