DILI, 09 May 2025 (TATOLI) – The Government of Japan, through its Embassy in Timor-Leste, together with NGO SHARE, today handed over newly constructed fences to Manuleu and Sabuli Basic Schools, in Hera, a periphery in the eastern part of Dili.
The handover ceremony was witnessed by Tetsuya Kimura, Ambassador of Japan to Timor-Leste, and Shutaro Sunai, the Country Representative of NGO SHARE.
These fence construction projects began in 2022 and are financially supported by the Government of Japan and the Japanese people.
“The fences to be handed over today were constructed to help protect the water supply facilities from livestock and other external factors, ensuring their cleanliness. This, in turn, will motivate children to practice handwashing. We hope that children in this school will develop a habit of handwashing even outside the school,” Ambassador Kimura said at the handover ceremony.
Kimura thanked all parties and local communities involved in the project for the revitalization of mother and children health services: “It’s my great pleasure to attend the school fence handover ceremony.”
Sunai extended his deepest gratitude to the Government of Japan for supporting the construction of the fences to ensure a safe and protected learning environment for students in both schools.
“NGO SHARE hopes that both schools will ensure regular maintenance of the fences so that they last longer, in order to ensure the continued protection of the water supply facilities in the future,” said Sunai.
The Education Ministry’s National Director of Infrastructure, Helio Pereira, thanked the Government of Japan for its support, saying such assistance is crucial for the health and well-being of students and teachers, serving as a foundation for a safe and healthy learning environment.
