DILI, 09 May 2025 (TATOLI) – Timor-Leste has taken another step toward strengthening its maritime security with the graduation of 24 members of the Timor-Leste Defense Force (F-FDTL) from the specialized Boarding Officer Course. The ceremony, held on May 9, 2025, at the F-FDTL naval base in Hera, marks a significant milestone in the country’s efforts to enhance its maritime law enforcement capabilities.

The course, conducted in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy in Dili and the United States Coast Guard (USCG), provided intensive training in boarding procedures, maritime security, law enforcement techniques, and safety practices.

“Designed to equip personnel with crucial operational skills, the program aims to bolster Timor-Leste’s ability to safeguard its waters and enforce maritime laws effectively,” read a statement.

During the graduation ceremony, the U.S. Embassy’s Acting Charge d’Affaires, Chasen Peabody, congratulated the graduates on their achievements and praised their dedication.

Peabody reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to supporting Timor-Leste’s maritime security and strengthening cooperation between the two nations. “This training reflects our shared priorities in maintaining regional stability and ensuring security at sea,” he said.

The newly trained officers will now play a critical role in protecting Timor-Leste’s maritime domain, reinforcing security measures, and enhancing operational capabilities across various F-FDTL naval and maritime units. Their expertise will contribute to maintaining stability in the region and combating illicit activities at sea.
